Tuesday

I have a hard time remembering everything. Updating websites, blogs, resumes, keeping the studio clean, eating every meal...the list could go on for quite a while. Anyway, so I missed a few days of posting here. I was hoping to keep it going pretty steady. I've just been hard at work trying to get things in order.
These two images are from Springwood Cemetery downtown.

A couple of film scans from last year. Hopefully I'll have some new work to show soon, not quite ready yet.

Two days...

Ok, so I missed yesterday...it was hectic here and I just didn't get a chance. I'm doing 3 images today because of it. The first is another of Joe Laniers very curious horses...a nose steamed version of this one followed shortly after. The next two are some I never did anything with...I walked around downtown shooting panoramics one day for fun.

Monday

Ok, so I didn't update all weekend. Instead I sat around watching Weeds season 2 and 3, cleaned my room for the first time since I have no idea when...and beat the new Indiana Jones game for the Wii. Considering that I work and sleep and nothing else all week I feel no guilt. Oh, Julie and I cooked a bunch of food as well. It was fun.

I'm posting a couple of images from last year. They are both from downtown Greenville.

Friday

I have fireworks photos and could use them I guess, but I'm going a different route. Not only are these images in recognition of the 4th, they're also for all of those who have sat and wondered 'what would a photographer with an old Mamiya, some film, an empty garage, some light bulbs and an electrical cord do?'. (I know your out there). Well here it is...without getting shocked or burned even once this is what I did. Happy 4th!

Thursday

I grabbed a couple of food photos for today. Nothing I'm liking that much, but I'm a bit rushed to get them done. One is a thai chili pepper and the other a shitake mushroom (if I remember correctly). I'll let you guess which one is which.

Wednesday

Two more photos. The first was at my grandparents a while back, it's in honor of the fact that my studio just got sprayed for spiders. The second was just an old wrecked bus last year in Helen, GA.

Getting a few new photos up today before lunch time. Their both trees...I wasn't really planning a theme, but I guess I do have a ton of tree photos. These are both from 2007...the first is from Pretty Place and the second is from Jones Gap.

Monday

I've barely accomplished anything today, but I will update here. I'm adding two old photos, depicting two even older photos. These images were shot in 06, the negatives in the shots were some of my earliest shots ever, sometime in 05. I liked the look of these, but haven't been able to completely repeat it since. One of those priceless errors I guess.

Sunday

So...I finally missed a day updating this thing. To my defense they were paving the parking lot here and I didn't have access to my computer. Oh well. I'm posting two images today from a trip to Connecticut/Rhode Island. We camped near the beach and a few mornings I got up at 6am (an amazing feat, for all who know me) and shot a few rolls of slide film.

Open Studios

So...I went to the Open Studios meeting last night. One of the topics was the 12x12 show, which I'm definitely looking forward to. To practice and for fun, I am going to post some square images today. They won't be what I use for actual show, but I do like square photos.

The first image is one of Joe Lanier's horses. He was nice enough to let me come by one day and take a few pictures.

The second is of one of my grandfathers tool boxes in a shed he built behind his house. The shed hasn't been used in years and nobody is really supposed to go in it (it's built on the edge of a very steep hill and I think its expected to fall over the edge at some point). You can see the 6-8 foot incline under the ramp to the toolbox, that actually continues another 20 feet or so out of frame.

Thursday...so rushed.

Two more old images today. The slug is from 06, the other is from the Clemson Botanical Gardens shot in 07.

06-24

A couple random photos I dug up from the back of my hard drive. The wine glass I shot in my room before I had space to work. The entire setup was about 3 feet by 4 feet and I feel claustrophobic just thinking about it. The other picture is my friend Jim's dog. I shot it a few years ago with a crazy flash diffuser made out of paper and electrical tape. Note the lean, that dog loves to lean.

Tuesday 6-23...with minutes to spair

Ok, I wanted to post something before I (I was about to say "have to" here but I've learned that's a no-no) go pack up and go shoot.

(below) That's a tree.

Boredom

So one thing I read about procrastination...changing it doesn't mean always forcing yourself to do what you don't feel like, but to maybe do something else as productive instead. So, I needed a few minutes away from work...instead of the usual zoned out Solitaire I doodled with a bamboo pen and india ink on some computer paper...why not....its a camel.

Starting Now

I have made no new artwork this year. I've shot negatives and I've edited files, but none have made it to their physical form. I got really fed up with that the other day, I'm a cronic procrastinator and don't know why. I have confidence in my work, but maybe deep down I don't. I'm on chapter two of a book about how to get past procrastination and how its seldom the base issue, but more often the natural response to another issue. This hit deep, chapter 1 sounded like someone followed me around for a week to get inspiration to write the book. I decided from all this that the reason I don't make as much work now is because I'm constantly surrounded by amazing artwork (I photograph artwork for a living)...I think I let this start effect me, I feel like I can't compete with all this really cool work, so to avoid criticism I avoid finishing anything. The unfinished pieces can't be "judged" because more could still be done to make them cooler. Well this blog is my fight against it, against myself. I plan to post at least 1 photo every day, good or bad...starting now. I'm asking for judgement, I need it to progress. Avoiding it is only stunting my own growth as an artist. Thanks!

The image on the left is one from Julie and my hike at Pinkbeds in Pisgah national forest. I think it was the first shot I took. The place was really pretty and this was just before a light rain. The image on the right is a Zonkey at Hollywild.
